Auckland Pride is proud to announce that registrations for the 2020 Auckland Pride Festival are now open!
By launching the festival theme and registration details earlier, we aim to give our community more time to create their events, book venues and talent, and apply for funding from sponsors and grant bodies. In addition, we are introducing early-bird pricing for festival registrations to make our festival more accessible for event producers. Early-bird pricing will run from September 16 to October 13, and General registrations open from October 14.
The partnership between Auckland Pride and Auckland Council is continuing with the return of the Proud Centres to the 2020 Pride Festival! The Proud Centres turn key community centres from Te Atatū to Ōtara into venues that can be hired for free throughout the duration of the festival. In 2019, these venues hosted fabulous events such as Queen of the South, Queer Scenes, Drag Bingo, multiple sports events, performances, talks, and workshops.
The return of the Proud Centres enables more of our communities to put on events across Tāmaki Makaurau, reducing the barriers for new and emerging artists, event producers, and community groups wanting to participate in the festival. Auckland Council are not only providing high quality venues, but will be supporting the development of events.
The Proud Centres will be announcing their registration process in October so keep an eye on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/proudcentres/
The Ending HIV Pride Hauora Series is a new joint initiative by Auckland Pride and the New Zealand AIDS Foundation (Ending HIV) aimed at increasing the health and wellbeing of our rainbow communities. The Hauora series is a new category of events in the Auckland Pride Festival, allowing anyone to create an event in the series to improve the wellbeing of our diverse communities. Events with a shared kaupapa will be accepted into this festival category, and may be eligible for financial support from Ending HIV and Auckland Pride to produce the event.
By reducing costs for event producers, encouraging free events, and partnering with the Proud Centres, we are ensuring that 2020 will be our most accessible festival yet. We are looking forward to seeing the diversity that will make up the festival, supporting our communities to put on events and providing a platform to showcase the immense talent of Tāmaki Makaurau’s queer people!
