AUCKLAND PRIDE ANNOUNCE DETAILS FOR #OURMARCH

Auckland Pride is proud to confirm the official plans to bring our communities together for #ourmarch on Saturday 9 February.

This march of togetherness welcomes all to join in and showcase expressions of pride. Removing the barrier to entry, #ourmarch is a free event facilitated by Auckland Pride to allow any member of the LGBTQ+ communities and those who share the kaupapa of the Auckland Pride Festival 2019 to take part in the hīkoi. Auckland Pride encourages those wanting to participate in #ourmarch to sign up via the form here.

#ourmarch will take the Auckland Central graduation route, beginning Albert Park as a nod to LGBTQ+ history in Tāmaki Makaurau, as the site of the first gay liberation protest in 1972. Gathering from 4.30pm, the march will proceed down Victoria Street, up Queen Street into Aotea Square, and culminating in a celebration in Myers Park which will run until 9pm. Ensuring accessibility has been a key consideration in planning for the event, with both the march and celebration confirmed to be wheelchair accessible and care taken to provide support to those with access issues.

With Auckland Transport and NZ Police granting consent and assisting with logistics, Auckland Pride intend for #ourmarch to be a peaceful event, reflecting the diversity of the LGBTQ+ communities in Auckland. Auckland Pride is also calling for volunteers to aid in the logistics and accessibility of the day. For those who would like to be involved on the day, including those interested in performing in the celebration following the march, please contact Festival Coordinator Luke Wilson: [email protected]

The Auckland Pride Board is proud to offer Aucklanders the chance to come together for a walk of community. Chair Cissy Rock says, #ourmarch is about making Auckland Pride a place for us all to be visible, involved, and heard. This is an exciting time as we march into the future, with people at the heart of what we do.”
